The Creative Retirement Institute is a volunteer-driven, self-supporting organization whose mission is to provide affordable, quality lifelong learning opportunities to adults in a supportive environment.
The Creative Retirement Institute was created in 1993 as a response to the growing interests of seniors in northern King and Snohomish counties. Many involved citizens, as well as the directors of three local senior centers, joined forces with Edmonds College to develop an expanded program at the college.
With the help of the community and the generosity of the Founding Friends of CRI, the program officially became an option at Edmonds College when it launched in the Spring of 1993 with fourteen classes.
Just the next year, in 1994, CRI received an Award of Excellence for "Outstanding New Program" from the Association for Continuing Higher Education. By 1996, the program finally became self-supporting and membership reached over 300.
You may be occasionally contacted by CRI Class Assistants Committee members to see if you are interested in helping with class.
All CRI students are eligible for a Edmonds College student ID card. This EdPass allows you access to the Edmonds College library and gym, as well as a discounted bus pass. Your EdPass may also provide you with discounts on community services, software, and more!
